Rompers - how to wear and where to buy

Falling along the theme of matching shorts and tops - we have the short romper!  Don't let the name romper keep you away from checking out these great looks we put together for you using Polyvore.  Polyvore is great because it also allows you ... yes you... to see where you can buy these pieces.  We try to mix from expensive to less expensive to pull off the whole look.

Check out 3 different ways that you can pull of a Romper and wear these into fall...

The matching short set...

I know, I know, wearing a romper is one thing but wearing a bold print or bold fabric short set/pant suit is another!

Well, these matching sets have been pretty major on the runways and celebrities this past couple of seasons and I must admit that I am in live with them as well.

I found my own matching short set second hand for 1.25! Ironically it has geckos all over it (I hate those little things) but none-the-less I'm going to rock this outfit and have!

Here are a couple of my online inspirations and see Monday's recreation for our look!

What we've found!

We found a lot of fun things this past week! Each item under $10!

Happy Hunting!

Short & Top Set Recreation

Here we are again... another Monday BUT the good news is that we have another Recreated look from you. This is another wonderful outfit which can transition you straight into the beginning of fall - well at least a "Texas" Fall as those are pretty moderate.

The look we have for you today is a matching top and shorts set with blazer. Unfortunately, we have been unable to track down the original source of this Pin and cannot tell you what the original price of the outfit that we are recreating would have been; however, after seeing our price you won't even want to know how much others pay for it!

The first outfit below is the look we found on Pinterest. Isn't this outfit portray such a look of "Class"?!? Such a great way to pull off shorts in a professional manner.
The picture below that is Pennies & Recreation's shot at recreating this outfit. Here is how we recreated the look:
Top & Short Matching set at a thrift store for $1.25 (for both pieces!!!)
Blazer at Plato's Closet for around $8
The outfit was bought for under $10 - that is pretty amazing and you have to admit that Myles looks pretty amazing wearing it!

Other pieces in this look include the Collar Necklace from Forever 21 (old) but knowing me I probably paid no more than around $10 for it. The fringe ombre earrings are also from Forever 21 (old) and I would guess that I paid around $4 for them. I will tell you that those are some of my absolute FAV earrings and I wear them with so many outfits.

Hope you enjoyed today's Recreated look! Please let us know if you find a look that you want us to Recreate - you can email us at Penniesandrecreation@gmail.com

Everybody Loves a good SALE

The weekend is almost here and I am so excited! My weekends usually consist of cleaning, thrifting, horseback riding and pool time. This time of year you can find a lot of great retail sales. Summer is coming to an end and the stores are preparing for fall. Last weekend I hit up Forever 21 for some amazing sale items. I was able to find many pieces that were fall transitional and would allow for me to layer.

I have gone ahead and pulled some items for you online that I think are great deals. Check them out!

Here is a great layering piece - wear over a blazer or a striped shirt with a maxi skirt - on sale for $23.99...

Another popular piece right now is the military jacket (see previous posts this week) and a spin off on that is the utility vest.  This can be worn over dresses or great with some pleather leggings.  It is on sale for $22.99

Maxi skirts can be worn year round - just change out your gladiator sandals or wedges for a bootie and wear this cute skirt for $15.99

I will wear a piece like this all fall and winter - pair it with leggings, over a dress, jeans - it tends to be one of go to layering essentials and for $20.99 it is worth it!

I hope these items help you get ready to transition into fall! Email us at Penniesandrecreation@gmail.com and let us know what great deals you found this weekend.

How to wear the Military Jacket

On yesterday's post, we pulled some popular pictures from Pinterest to show you all the ways to wear a Military Jacket. Today, we put together a Polyvore Board that helps you piece them together. It also shows you where you can go buy the pieces on the board. The Military Jacket is getting a lot of attention for becoming a versatile item and we at Pennies & Recreation we are ALL about being versatile because it means you save money - You buy 1 piece and wear it many different ways! Check out the board below and let us know how you wear your Military Jacket - do you dress it up or wear it for a casual weekend? Email us at Penniesandrecreation@gmail.com

Military Jacket Salute

This week we are shouting out the Military Jacket! There are so many ways you can wear this piece, here are a few that have caught our eye...

As you can see from some of the pictures we pulled, you can down play the military jacket or you can snaz it up...the idea of fashion is to just have fun!!!

Tomorrow we'll be creating a Polyvore board on the Military Jacket.

This Week's Thrift Round Up

Thrifting is our kriptonite and when we see one we are nearly compelled by the HUGE THRIFT STORE sign to pull into the parking lot to take a "quick" gander at what's inside...or at least that's how it happens to me.

Check out a few of our fun thrift finds from this past week!

(Going from left to right, top to bottom)
1) White blouse made by Kouj, bought from GOODWILL for 3
2) "Chanel-like" Jacket made by Bebe, bought from GOODWILL for 4
3) Animal print top made by Banana Republick, bought from GOODWILL for 3
4) Two-toned ankle skinny's made by Forever 21, bought from FOREVER 21 for 8
5) Snake skinned pumps by Issac Mizrahi for Target, bought at GOODWILL for 4
6) Peplum eyelet blazer by Forever 21, bought at FOREVER 21 for 11

You see it's not extremely difficult to find current fashionable pieces for pennies if you have a little patience for those things to go on sale or clearance or to walk the racks at a thrift store. If not, you can always call on your "For the love of thrifting" ladies (me and Lauren) and we'd LOVE to help you!!!

Military Jacket Recreation

I think that Monday's are my favorite blog day.  I know I know - it's Monday and I shouldn't be so excited but I LOVE getting to show you are recreated looks on Monday.  The whole process of recreating a look is so much fun - finding a look that is popular and trendy on Pinterest or Fashion blogs then going to the Thrift Store to find items to recreate that look.  Right there you have 2 things that I love to do - Pinterest & Thrifting - so pretty much I am already giddy and we haven't even done the photo shoot yet =)

Today we have the always lovely Carissa modeling our Recreated look. I don't know about you but where we live we actually had some pre-fall weather this past week.  Well for Texas it was pre-fall weather - low 90's was the high and the mornings were amazing in the 70's which is all so unusual for August in Texas but we will take it and not complain.  Due to the "cooler" weather (hehe), our recreated look leans towards getting you ready for some pre-fall weather styling.

Keep your summer dresses out - you can still wear them during pre-fall and fall season - just add a military jacket into the mix and you are all set.  It's a great way to make those summer dresses more versatile year round.

Our Recreated look comes from the blog Happily Grey again- get use to it because you will see a lot from her - pretty FAB!  She took a simple white dress and paired it with a military jacket for a great weekend look.  If you go to her site you can see that she sources her outfit pieces and this outfit for the dress and jacket = $143 which includes the current sale prices. Check her out...

We did the same thing but for much much less!
Dress = Old Navy at local thrift store for $3.78
Military Jacket = Old Navy at local thrift store for $2.50
Purse = Vintage and was handed down from my grandma.  I love using old vintage purses - just adds a little something, don't you think?

Check out some more photos from the Military Jacket Recreation Photo Shoot:

Don't be afraid of adding layers of rings - double up and make a statement.  We may have put every ring we own on Carissa but what a statement it makes =)
Other items that we have in our look include 2 necklaces that were hand me downs from Grandma's and a chunky bracelet borrowed - it is from Free People ($22).  The gladiator sandals are from Ross - a couple years old but I usually don't pay more than $15 for shoes at Ross.

Hope you enjoyed our Recreated look for the week. It was such a fun blog to post and share with you.

Don't forget to send us your favorite Pinterest looks so we can recreate them for you.  Send all ideas to Penniesandrecreation@gmail.com
